Well, getting hitched is one part – although extremely important – of the story. The other part is how to “create” the greatest day of your life so you and your loved ones have a fabulous time and make unforgettable memories at your wedding.

In the Indian context, as family elders are only too happy to point out, the wedding is far from being simply a union of two people, it’s the coming together of two families, two households. What did I feel when my daughter’s wedding was fixed? Like any other mother, my first feeling was that of a sense of immense happiness.  My little girl had grown up so fast and was readying to be a bride! She and her fiancé had been in a relationship for a while, so we already knew him and liked him tremendously. Now, their love story was ready to culminate in marriage. As a mother, I felt my heart swelling with joy as I blessed them and started preparations for the happy union.

At the same time, there were apprehensions galore. Being an Indian, I knew how seriously we take our weddings. A wedding is not simply a formal ceremony where the bride and groom get married to each other. It is a mega event that sees the whole family coming together to celebrate.

Our family is based in Mumbai but we decided to have the wedding in Kolkata as we are Bengalis and our roots are in this city.
So, as one can well imagine, as parents, we were also bracing ourselves for the tremendous planning and preparation that lay ahead.

My jamai, the groom, belongs to another community. So, as a mother I was also anxious that the event should be seamlessly conducted from start to finish.

All my anxieties notwithstanding, deep down, I was very happy, emotional, and proud — my daughter was getting married to a man of her choice, she was marrying the love of her life.

Every single girl hopes for a dream wedding. Social media, especially Instagram makes each wedding look ethereal and dreamy. Of course, my daughter too wanted a standout ceremony that was unique, memorable and fun. However, honestly, we had zero idea about how to make it a reality.

All I knew was that executing a modern wedding that would carry our preferred elements and would be enjoyable from the first ritual to the last could not possibly be an easy job.

We met Mithu and Prerona of Parinoy.  Everything changed after the meeting and I felt a big weight being taken off my shoulders. We sat together and discussed every single detail for a good length of time. They gave some really appealing ideas that included décor, flowers, food, right down to every tiny detail that one can imagine. I pitched in with some saved ideas of my own that I had collected from the net. Slowly, step by step, the whole dream wedding started taking shape.

As parents, my husband and I had one chief wish – that our daughter gets the wedding she always dreamt of and remains stress-free all through to enjoy one of the happiest occasions of her life.

I can say this on repeat – thanks to Mithu and Parinoy our wish became a reality. She went out of her way to make the event absolutely unforgettable for our family.

Before I sign off, let me add this: After the wedding was fixed, my family visited Kolkata in March’25 and we contacted Parinoy along with other enlisted companies. We ended up with a few ideas to start off with but at the time were clueless about which would work best for us.

Again, in April-May’25, we made another trip to the city and Mithu called us and we had an intensive meeting. Along with her team, she took us through the paces handling quick FAQs like a pro. Our queries were handled with precision and points explained very clearly.

We decided there and then to engage Parinoy and today I know the decision was perfect.

Honestly, I don’t know how I ended up writing such a detailed account. I guess it is because the memories are crystal-clear in my mind even today and I feel I am living the event even today!
